The decree takes effect on the day of publishing.

(Kazan, January 26, Tatar-inform). President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov on 24 January signed a decree “On declaring 2012 a Year of the Republic of Tatarstan’s Historical and Cultural Heritage”, the President of Tatarstan site reports.

The decree reads, in part:

“To raise the public awareness of issues related to safeguarding and developing the historical and spiritual traditions, cultures and languages of the peoples residing in the territory of Tatarstan, and to assist in the recreation, restoration and promotion of cultural heritage sites, I decree:

1. To declare 2012 a Year of the Republic of Tatarstan’s Historical and Cultural Heritage.

2. The Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan within one month to devise and approve a basic action plan for the Year of the Republic of Tatarstan’s Historical and Cultural Heritage with a timeline for the events, persons in charge, amounts and sources of financing, and to ensure supervision of the events.

3. To propose to the Tatarstan municipalities heads, territorial branches of federal executive authorities and public associations to take active part in the preparation and holding of the Year of the Republic of Tatarstan’s Historical and Cultural Heritage.

4. The Republican Agency for the Press and Mass Communications Tatmedia, JSC television and radio company Novy Vek, republican and local media to provide broad coverage of the holding of the Year of the Republic of Tatarstan’s Historical and Cultural Heritage.

5. This decree takes effect on the day of publishing.”
