Poet and public activist Ravil Bukharayev passes away
Tatar-inform offers deepest condolences to the poet’s relatives and friends.
(Kazan, January 24, Tatar-inform, Lucia Kamalova). The prominent poet, prose writer, translator, distinguished art worker of Tatarstan and public activist, Ravil Bukharayev, was on Tuesday reported to have passed away.
Ravil Bukharayev was born on 18 October 1951 in Kazan to the family of a prominent Tatarstan scientist Rais Bukharayev. In 1974 he graduated from Kazan State University’s mechanics and mathematics department. He began to publish his works from 1969. From 1990 he lived in London, in 1992-2007 was a staff employee of the BBC Russian Service.
On 18 October last year, a poetry feast, dedicated to the poet’s 60th anniversary and 40 years since the beginning of his creative career, took place in Kazan. On that evening he was presented the UN’s Order of Unity for service in uniting the mankind, for which he had been nominated by the Russian embassies in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
In September and October last year, a themed series “Lectures about the northern Islam” took place at the premises of Tatar-inform.
On 18 January we reported Ravil Bukharayev, at the order of the Tatarstan State Symphony Orchestra artistic director and chief conductor Alexander Sladkovsky, writing a libretto for an opera White Wolf. The premiere was scheduled to take place within the Kazan Autumn festival.
“As for the musical project itself, I have not yet finished it. I have not yet done enough to report it to the public. The only thing I can say is that it will be an moral fairy tale set in two worlds, this, ours, and the other one, the fantasy one,” he wrote in his last letter to our agency on 19 January.
