(Kazan, January 23, Tatar-inform, Irina Ignatieva). Tatarstan has produced an own sort of spring rape. The authors of the novelty are young scientists at the Tatar Agriculture Research Institute, Askhadullin brothers, the institute told Tatar-inform.

Tatarstan has long been able to cultivate and process rape, the institute said. Despite this, sorts brought in from Moscow and other Russian regions have been grown in the fields of Tatarstan.

While creating the new sort, called Umart, the breeders adjusted it as much as possible to the region’s climatic conditions. Umart is highly productive, contains much oil and is insusceptible to diseases. The new oil culture is a valuable material for the processing industry.

The sort is undergoing state sort trials. It could be planted in the Tatarstan fields as early as this year.
