(Kazan, September 1, Tatar-Inform). Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov addressed people of Tatarstan on the occasion of the all-Russian holiday – Day of Knowledge, which is celebrated today.

“Dear friends!

I sincerely congratulate all schoolchildren, parents, teachers and educators, all workers of the education system on the holiday – Day of Knowledge and the beginning of the new academic year!

New schools are open for the new academic year; educational institutions redecorated; the charity campaign “Help to Ger Ready For School” is held throughout the republic.

In total, some 650,000 schoolchildren and students are to start classes in republican schools and professional education institutions. A new stage of serious work begins for them, the foundation of future success and achievements is laid.

The year of 2010 is of particular importance for all teachers. It was announced the Year of Teacher. The national educational strategy “Our New School” has been approved this year; the new generation state educational standards are being implemented. The republican strategy of education development “Kilyachak” has been developed and adopted in Tatarstan. Kazan (Volga) Federal University and two national research universities are being formed.

We made some significant decisions concerning increase of teachers’ professional prestige: financial standing of our teachers must considerably improve with the new system of salary payment and establishing grants for teachers. The renewed system of training and skills upgrading – the republican program “Algarysh” must create necessary conditions for development of our teachers’ professional skills. The republican project of providing all teachers with personal laptops and the program “Electronic Education of the Republic of Tatarstan” have the same purpose.

I express gratitude to our teachers, all personnel of the education system for commitment to their work. Let this academic year be the year of new creative achievements. I wish you talented and hard-working students, strong health, great mood, happiness and prosperity!”
