Youth Olympic Games winners welcomed in Kazan

Tatarstan winners of the First Youth Olympics medals have returned from Singapore to Kazan today.
(Kazan, August 31, Tatar-Inform, Mikhail Mironov). A solemn welcoming ceremony has been held today for young Tatarstan athletes – prize-winners of the First Youth Olympics. Weightlifter Artyom Okulov, foil fencer Viktoria Alekseyeva and freestyle wrestling athlete Svetlana Lipatova have returned from Moscow by train.The First Youth Olympics took place in Singapore on August 14-26. The Russian team is the second in the team rating with 49 medals in total – 20 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze medals. China took the first place.
Three sportsmen represented Tatarstan at the Games-2010. Weightlifter Artyom Okulov, representing Perm Krai and Tatarstan in the Russian team, won in the under-77 kg weight class. Foil fencer Viktoria Alexeyeva took a silver in personal and team ratings. Svetlana Lipatova took a bronze in freestyle wrestling. A solemn welcoming ceremony has been arranged for the winners today.
Tatarstan Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov has congratulated the young athletes on their successful performance.
Upon their arrival from Singapore, the Russian team members have already met with Dmitry Medvedev at the Kremlin. Soon Tatarstan sportsmen are going to meet Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov in the very near future.
