A growth in TV viewers of 33-40 percent annually is predicted before 2012.

(Kazan, August 16, Tatar-inform). Despite a seasonal decline in visits to the Russian internet’s TV sector, the online TV audience grows in quantity and changes in quality: fellow countrymen are more interested in the TV dealing with news, analysis and topics rather than entertainment.

No mass switch to online TV is as of the moment possible, since the most common IP video format does now allow long and mass video viewing. This in particular will not allow the interactive TV in the near future to oust the traditional linear broadcasting format.

RUmetrica presents data on the development of the TV sector in the Russian internet based on the Rambler 100 and the Rambler search system’s ranking. The scope of research included website audiences, topics, number of visits, audiences’ TV preferences and the most popular TV channels. The study covers a period from mid-2009 to mid-2010.

In July 2010, traffic in the Russian internet’s TV sector was 930 thousand people a day. Those watching the TV at least once a month were 26 percent, which is 3 percent more than in the beginning of the year.

Twenty five percent of the users have over the past month made enquiries related to TV news, 17 requested TV guides, 15 percent watched TV programmes online or records.

The online TV audience is forecasted by 2012 to grow 33-40 percent annually.

The growth of the video and TV content market until 2013 is expected to be about 200 percent. a total of 44 million people watch the TV daily, 24 million users watch video on the internet.
