First lot of laptops to be delivered to Tatarstan teachers tomorrow

A total of 12,820 teachers will receive laptops within the Computer for School project.
(Kazan, August 5, Tatar-inform). Tatarstan carries on with a project on providing computer equipment to schools and teachers.Over 3.7 thousand computer equipment sets have been supplied to schools in Kazan and over 7 thousand to educational institutions in Tatarstan rural regions within the Computer for School project. In all, about 11 thousand advanced computers will be delivered to schools by the beginning of the academic year, while teachers in 375 schools will be given laptops, the Tatarstan Informatisation and Communication Ministry’s press service has said.
The two unprecedented projects, Computer for School and Computer for Teacher, were initiated by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. The Computer for School project’s budget is 250 million roubles, part of which is to be used to build wireless internet access networks at schools.
A total of 200 million roubles has in 2010 been allocated within the Computer for Teacher project; 12,820 teachers in 375 high schools will by the beginning of the academic year receive laptops. The first lot will be shipped to schools tomorrow. Teachers in Nizhnekamsk schools will be the first to receive them.
The suppliers of computers for schools based in Kazan and across Tatarstan are local IT firms who won an open auction for computer equipment supply.
