(Kazan, July 30, Tatar-Inform). Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the government to take urgent additional measures to put down the fires in several regions of the country and to help fire-affected people, presidential spokeswoman Natalia Timakova said on Friday.

The president instructed the government to take urgent measures to intensify firefighting efforts and to give the assistance to fire-stricken people and “to the families of people killed in the fires, as well as to allocate monetary compensations for the lost property and the construction of new housing,” she noted.

The president has had several telephone conversations with Governor of the Voronezh Region Alexei Gordeyev, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev and Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu for the last few hours, the presidential spokeswoman pointed out. They reported to the president on the firefighting efforts in the regions, the evacuation of people from the most dangerous places and on the measures to localize the fires and to help the fire-stricken people.

Medvedev instructed the government to take all necessary measures to tighten the fire safety and to take preventive measures against new fires due to the abnormal heat that spelled on several Russian regions.
