The ex minister plans to continue working on the Tatarstan’s development strategy.

(Kazan, July 29, Tatar-inform, Natalia Rybakova). Tatarstan’s ex economy minister Marat Safiullin has returned to his previous job as the head of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Long-Term Economic Research Institute. He has today shared his plans in an exclusive interview with Tatar-inform.

The minister’s resignation came as a complete surprise to all his co-workers. “I did not want to leave because of some reprimand or blunders. I made the decision and I have some plans for the future,” he said.

The economy minister job is very complex, Safiullin said. “I am one of the ministers who held the office longer than all the others. The job is rife with conflicts, since you have to assess other authorities. My stamina is not infinite, I tried as long as I could,” the ex minister shared.

He went on to say he had quite a few ideas favoured by the Tatarstan’s authorities. “I would like to complete everything related to strategic planning. We have over the years built a strong operative management system. The world is changing, the most important thing is now to devise a feasible strategy. It should be open, relevant and acceptable for the public,” he said.

Safiullin gave no assessment of his three-year work as one of the key ministries chief, saying “the assessment of the top executives is the main indicator”.

The Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Centre for Long-term Economic Research is a public entity established in late 2004-early 2005. The centre conducts research into the quality of living, causes of corruption, et cetera. “We cooperate with all the ministries, including the Tatarstan Economy Ministry, and want to build a powerful research and analysis centre here,” the interlocutor said.

Safiullin denied the rumour of his possible employment in Moscow, saying he had offers but was not interested and that he was a Tatarstan patriot.
