The rules on modest dress were earlier applicable only to those visiting St. Peter’s Basilica.

(Kazan, July 29, Tatar-Inform). The Vatican has extended the rules on modest dress, which were earlier applicable only to those visiting St. Peter’s Basilica, to the entire enclave.

The Pontifical Swiss Guard has been ordered to stop tourists wearing scanty clothes - men in shorts and women with uncovered shoulders - asking them to dress properly before entering the Vatican City State.

This move met sharp criticism with Rome residents who got used to visiting Vatican’s pharmacies and shops, Voice of Russia reports.
