Ilsur Metshin: “The Universiade village will be Russia’s best student campus”

The campus will be able to accommodate 20 thousand students.

(Kazan, March 10, Tatar-inform, Sergei Semerkin). The Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin has today at the 48th session of the Kazan City Duma delivered a report for 2009.

The city head highlighted that nine Universiade facilities had in 2009 been built promptly and of high quality. They are state-of-the-art ice palaces, swimming pools and gyms in all districts in Kazan.

In 2010, another 12 sports centres are to be put in operation. Ten-billion-rouble funding has been secured by a government of Russia's resolution. In the autumn of 2010, the first two lines of the Universiade village are planned to be commissioned, where 8 thousand students will early next academic year be able to move in. The total space of the student accommodation facilities, to be constructed for Universiade 2013, is 300 thousand square metres. Apart from residential premises, they include a complete infrastructure required for comfortable living - a post office, banks, cafes, shops, entertainment centres and libraries.

“This will be the best student campus in Russia,” Metshin pledged. In his words, the campus will after Universiade be used as a home for 20 thousand students. By comparison, the berth fund of the Tatarstan’s higher schools’ dormitories has over the entire 200-year history of the city’s higher educational establishments been 15.7 thousand.
