Colorado State University could open branch in Tatarstan

4 March 2010, 13:20

(Kazan, March 4, Tatar-inform). A branch of Colorado State University could be set up in Tatarstan. The local Economy Minister Marat Safiullin and the university's College of Business dean John Hoxmeier have discussed the possible launch of the world-level business school's representation and prospects for strategic partnership in the field of education progammes.

The meeting discussed some technical aspects of cooperation: a selection procedure for candidates, assessment of quality and usability of acquired knowledge, choice of premises for the staff, classrooms and their equipment, managerial and academic curatorship of the programme, and others. At the proposal of Minister Safiullin, Colorado State University is, to select the key academic partner, hold a presentation of the university’s MBA programme, to showcase its specifics, benefits and competitive advantages.

Higher business education, offering new opportunities for a career in management, has since 2008 been available at Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute. Its MBA programme last year was included in the world’s top 1,000 business programmes. Attenees of the MBA course who successfully pass state certification are awarded a state-recognised degree in further education, with an extra speciality of Master of Business Administration, and a joint MBA certificate of the ICN School of Management (Nancy, France) and Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute.

The Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had in April 2009 discussed cooperation in terms of student and faculty exchange with the Colorado University College of Business dean Ajay Menon. The American party also offered to Tatarstan a programme on selecting and training government officials, combining an MBA distance education programme and some specialised courses in Kazan. The potential candidates for a Colorado University’s MBA certificate need to focus on language training, as a good command of English is one of the main prerequisites for completing the courses successfully.

To implement the personnel policy and upgrade the management staff training programme’s ranking, the Tatarstan Economy Ministry has formulated a package deal on forming a public order and indicative assessment of the education’s effectiveness and quality. To improve the quality of management at local enterprises and increase their investment appeal, the independent directors institution is to be made a practice.

According to Marat Safiullin, it is very important for Tatarstan to work with the best global education centres on personnel training and skills improvement, reports the Tatarstan Ecoomy Ministry’s press service.
