Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev has awarded winners of the republican contest for the title “Philanthropist of the Year-2009” today.

(Kazan, March 3, Tatar-inform, Kristina Ivanova). Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev has awarded winners of the republican contest for the title “Philanthropist of the Year-2009” at the session of the Council for Charity.

State advisor under Tatarstan President for social issues Tatyana Larionova informed that just the contest winners donated almost 4 billion roubles to social, religious, public institutions and individuals. For comparison: charity donations of the 2007 contest winners totaled a little over 3 billion roubles.

151 applications were submitted for the contest in 7 nominations: “Large and medium enterprises” (63 applications), “Small business enterprises” (18), “Individual entrepreneurs” (22), “Non-commercial organizations” (16), “Individuals” (20), “Charity Funds” (5), and “Mass Media” (7).

Mintimer Shaimiev held the ceremony of rewarding the winners personally. He presented benefactors with diplomas and flowers. According to head of the republic, he is glad that not only directors of large enterprises, but also small business representatives and individuals are among philanthropists. Tatarstan President thanked all participants of the contest.

Heads of TAIF, KMPO, Ak Bars Agro, Consul General of Turkey in Kazan Ahmet Tuta and his wife, and also pensioner, sports veteran Rinat Mukhametshin are among the winners.
