Problems could arise in mid April, when the Kama, Vyatka and Belaya rivers overflow.

(Kazan, March 2, Tatar-inform, Artur Yenikeev). Meteorologists in Tatarstan predict calm waters in spring, but are apprehensive of a second wave of seasonal floods.

The Tatarstan Department of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring head Sergei Zakharov spoke about the main aspects of the coming spring’s fresh.

According to Zakharov, three factors influence the total level of floods: soil moistening in the winter, frost line and snow depth, or water content in the snow. In average, soil in Tatarstan is moistened about 70 percent, which is substantially more than normal. The frost line is however 50 percent deeper than normal, while the water content is twice as high.

According to Sergei Zakharov, the situation is under control, and if there are no weather surprises like rains or a sudden warm spell, Tatarstan will face no problems due to the floods. This year, they are expected to peak in the third ten days of March or the first ten days of April.

The second wave of floods should however not be overlooked. This mainly concerns the Tatarstan’s northern regions. The rivers Kamaz, Vyatka and Belaya usually overflow in mid April, which might cause flooding in some settlements.
