Rosstat continues to prepare for all-Russian census in 2010

5 February 2010, 12:45

(Kazan, February 5, Tatar-inform). The preparation for a Russian national census, to be held in 2010, is in progress. “We need to ensure a full coverage of the population and obtain information on each person,” noted the Federal State Statistics Service head Alexander Surinov.

In his words, the work on increasing public awareness is specific in all the larger cities of Russia. There is no lack of information in megapolises but people respond worse to pleas to participate in the census than do residents in remote settlements. Rosstat plans in the larger cities to involve the most prominent media and to arrange advertisement campaigns.

In the Russian census held in 2002, 80 percent of the staff were students and higher education institutions professors. This year, they are intended to be strongly involved in the event as well.

Rosstat said the bulk of the work is to be done by the service’s territorial branches but the support of the public authorities in each region is needed as well.
