Tatarstan State Council has vested Rustam Minnikhanov with President’s powers

94 deputies voted for vesting R. Minnikhanov with authority of the republic’s head.

(Kazan, February 4, Tatar-inform, Alia Sabirova). The Republic of Tatarstan State Council has vested Rustam Minnikhanov with authority of Tatarstan President at today’s session.

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev introduced his candidacy on January 27.

94 deputies voted for vesting power of head of the republic in R. Minnikhanov; 0 – against. It is required that majority of deputies vote for a candidate to vest him with authority.

At the end of December, “United Russia” political party nominated three candidates for the post of the Republic of Tatarstan President: the republican Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin, and the incumbent Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev.

On January 22, Mintimer Shaimiev met with Dmitry Medvedev and made a request not to consider prolonging of his presidential term.

Mintimer Shaimiev’s presidential term expires on March 25.
