Russia President Dmitry Medvedev will recommend Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov for the post of the Republic of Tatarstan President.

(Kazan, January 22, Tatar-inform). Russia President Dmitry Medvedev will recommend Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov for the post of the Republic of Tatarstan President due to Mintimer Shaimiev’s rejection of nomination, Itar-Tass reports.

After a session of the State Council, Dmitry Medvedev held a working meeting with Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev, head of the state’s press-secretary Natalia Timakova informed. She reminded that candidates for the post of Tatarstan leader are under consideration of the President in connection with the presidential term expiry.

“Mintimer Shaimiev has made a request not to consider his candidacy,” Timakova said. He explained he supports the course declared by Dmitry Medvedev in the State of the Nation Address, but he believes that the younger generation should be given a chance to prove themselves, Interfax reports. “M.Shaimiev thanked head of the state for trust and support he could rely on as leader of the republic,” press-secretary added.
